Atletico Madrid president jokes about Antoine Griezmann’s move to Barcelona

Arguably the most talked about summer transfer for some time now has been Antoine Griezmann’s summer move to Barcelona.
Last summer, Griezmann came very close to leaving Atletico Madrid but the French striker stayed due to the club’s transfer ban.
If reports are to be believed, Griezmann agreed to stay and help Atletico Madrid, if he received asurances that at the end of the 2017/2018 season, he would be able to leave the club.
This theory has seemingly been confirmed by the changes in Griezmann’s release clause.
To sign Griezmann last summer would have cost 200 million euros. At the end of this season the former Real Sociedad attacker has a 100 million euro release clause.
On Wednesday night, Antoine Griezmann pulled out an incredible display for Atletico Madrid.
Griezmann scored all four goals in a 4-0 La Liga home win over Leganes.
His recent form is nothing short of incredible, Griezmann has scored seven goals in two matches. Including a hat-trick at Sevilla last Sunday.
During his last 10 games in all competitions, Griezmann has scored 12 goals.
Atletico Madrid are in fine form and should not fear their next game: Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Sunday.
Barcelona play at Las Palmas tonight where they can reassert their lead to seven points from Diego Simeone’s side.
Sunday could well be the best chance Atletico Madrid have of cutting Barcelona’s La Liga lead.
Meanwhile, there has been plenty of chat that Griezmann has already signed for Barcelona and this game will be significant for the French striker as his potential future home.
In the build up to that fixture, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo was asked by Radio Marca if Griezmann has already signed a deal with Barcelona.
To which Cerezo replied: “The only thing that Griezmann has signed with Barcelona is that he will try to score 3 or 4 goals against them.”
Whilst amusing, this is unlikely to stop the Griezmann to Barcelona rumours!
