Liverpool FC are pursuing a £22m deal to sign Atletico Madrid defender Sime Vrsaljko in the January transfer window, according to reports in Italy.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, as quoted by the Daily Mirror,
is reporting that the 25-year-old right-back has emerged as a top
target for the Reds as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his squad in the
mid-season transfer window.
The same report,
though, says that the Merseyside outfit are
likely to face competition from Serie A side Napoli for the signature
of Vrsaljko.
The defender has not been able to hold down a regular spot
in the first team at Atletico Madrid so far this season and has only
made three starts in La Liga for Diego Simeone’s side.
The same story says that Vrsaljko is keen on a January move
away from Atletico as he bids to try and win a place in the Croatia
squad for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.
The story suggest that Liverpool FC have already made
contact with Atletico about a possible move, but that they are now
facing stiff competition from Napoli for his signature.
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Sunday
when they travel to Bournemouth looking to bounce back from draws
against Everton and West Brom.
