Pep Guardiola has welcomed the new Arsenal manager into the Premier League, and has enjoyed playing against him in the past
Pep Guardiola will come up against a familiar face next season after Unai Emery's appointment as Arsenal manager.
The
Spaniard has been tasked with turning the fortunes of the Gunners
around after a trophyless season that saw them finish sixth in the
Premier League, five points closer to the bottom than the top of the
table.
Manchester City did a league double over Arsene Wenger's side and also beat them 3-0 in the Carabao Cup final, reinforcing their superiority.
But Emery will face an uphill battle to get the club back on top against the Blues. The former PSG manager has gone winless in ten previous meetings with Guardiola , drawing four and losing six.
Granted,
Valencia were always underdogs against Barcelona but City have shown
over the last 12 months that it will take something special to beat them
- Liverpool, Shakhtar Donetsk and United were the only teams to beat
them when Ederson was in goal.
Guardiola took time out of the Pro-Am tournament he is taking part in
at Wentworth with professional golfer Tommy Fleetwood in order to
welcome his old La Liga rival to the English top flight.
“His
career speaks for itself,” the City manager said. “He did it perfect in
Spain with many teams – Valencia, Sevilla - and did it really well in
France.
“Welcome to England, another good manager is coming here.”
