The taxi company that has long presented itself as a ride-hailing application, Uber, is officially withdrawing from Germany.
The company dropped an appeal at
Germany’s high court, according to the Automobilwoche magazine. That
means that UberPOP will no longer attempt to reinstate its service in
Europe’s largest economy.
The company depends on “non-professional”
drivers, with a business model that depends on not paying health
insurance, sick leave, and tax avoidance. Uber faces a similar
litigation challenge in the UK, where the company has also faced
complaints for its failure to guarantee passenger security.
