Jose Mourinho has his say on Luke Shaw's performance for Manchester United in their 1-0 win over Bournemouth.
Jose Mourinho has admitted that he was delighted by Luke Shaw’s performance for Manchester United in their 1-0 win over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old made his first Premier League start of the season for
the Red Devils after having struggled to hold down a regular spot in
the first team under the Portuguese coach.
The left-back featured for 83 minutes at Old Trafford as Manchester
United claimed all three points thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s goal in the
first half.
Shaw has struggled for both form and fitness in recent months but now
seems to be winning over Mourinho in his bid to break back into the
first team at Old Trafford.
And the Manchester United manager was clearly delighted by what he
saw from Shaw during the Premier League victory over Bournemouth in
midweek.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Mourinho said: “Luke was
really good and improving, but then, later in the game, he was feeling
cramp and they [Bournemouth] felt that and were trying to go through
that side so it was important to bring Ashley Young to the game.
“The reaction of the crowd [standing ovation when he was replaced]
pleased me too because there is no better thing for a player than that.”
Manchester Untied will return to Premier League action on Sunday
afternoon when they take on West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
The Red Devils will are still 11 points behind Manchester City in the
race for the Premier League title after their defeat by Pep Guardiola’s
men at Old Trafford last weekend.
